Why Choose to Study at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo?

Choosing a career as a civil engineer or a geodetic engineer means choosing a profession recognised throughout the world. Civil engineering is the oldest branch of engineering, and the achievements of civil engineers are visible all around us. It is therefore no surprise that the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University of Sarajevo is the oldest technical faculty within the University.

Civil and geodetic engineers participate in the realisation of a wide variety of structures, including high-rise buildings, tunnels, bridges, dams, airports and complex industrial facilities. They work as designers, contractors, design reviewers, supervising engineers, investors’ representatives and representatives of public authorities. The profession offers a wide range of exciting career opportunities, as well as the opportunity to collaborate with engineers from other disciplines.

One of the greatest rewards comes at the end of a project, when you can look at the completed structure and take pride in your contribution, achieved through teamwork. This is what gives the profession its special appeal and value.

The study programmes at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo reflect the latest developments in the civil engineering profession and are compatible with those offered by leading European universities. The Faculty has a long-standing tradition of international cooperation with related faculties in some of Europe's most developed countries. Many of our professors, teaching assistants and associates have gained experience at renowned foreign higher education institutions, participated in scientific research projects, completed their doctoral dissertations abroad, and some have also had the opportunity to test and further develop their knowledge by working in leading engineering companies.

Our goal is to ensure that, upon successfully completing their studies, graduates possess the knowledge and competencies required to participate in civil engineering projects anywhere in the world. Most importantly, we strive to equip them with the ability to think critically and approach engineering challenges with sound professional judgement. Perhaps our most important goal, however, is to prepare young engineers to contribute to the development and improvement of our homeland.
