The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Civil Engineering is organizing a Summer School that will be held from July 5 to 10, 2025 in Sarajevo.

Countries around the world, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, face particular challenges in water resource management, such as lack of drinking water, extreme flooding, addressing drought problems, wastewater discharge, groundwater pollution, strengthening the role of hydropower and renewable energy sources, etc. Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its complex water resource management, has additional challenges due to fragmented policies and limited technical capacity.

The above was the reason for organizing the Summer School and for the choice of topics of the Summer School program. Through theoretical knowledge and scientific researches accompanied with practical field visits, the lecturers will, based on science-based foundations and principles, bring closer the real needs of the economy for engineering solutions to all school participants and thus contribute to their professional and scientific development.

The mission of the Summer School is to improve knowledge and exchange experiences through lectures, site visits, practical work and networking.

This unique educational event is intended for students of technical sciences (bachelor, master and doctoral studies), experts in the field of civil engineering, hydraulic engineering and environmental engineering, as well as employees in public administration and utility companies, designers and other professionals.

The thematic units that will be covered are focused on water resources in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Water is a key resource that connects environmental sustainability, economic development and social well-being. The program aims to provide students and professionals with information on water management, hydrology, and sustainability challenges within the region, taking into account its diverse geographical, climatic, and administrative conditions. The interaction between infrastructure that has been present for decades, modern engineering solutions and sustainable practices will be the subject of the sessions, with a special focus on the role of water in urban planning, energy production and climate change.
