 CEACM Awards

The CEACM Prof. Mang Award was initiated by CEACM to honor Professor Herbert A. Mang of TU Vienna, Austria. His research work had a pioneering impact on computer-based analysis techniques with special emphasis on the Finite Element Method. Professor Mang’s research started with Structural Mechanics models and later included fields of Mechanics of Deformable Solids, Computational Mechanics, Computational Acoustics, and Multi-Field and Multi-Scale Analyses of Materials and Structures.  He has held a number of prestigious positions as Chaired Professor, Head of Civil Engineering Department, and Vice-President of TU Vienna, Secretary General and President of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vice President of the Science Council of the Federal Government of Austria, President of ECCOMAS, Vice President of IACM, among others. Since 2011 he is a Professor Emeritus at TU Vienna. From 2012 to 2015 he was a National RPGE Chair Professor and since 2016 he is a Full Professor, both at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. From 1992 to 1995 he served as the first President of CEACM.

The CEACM Prof. Mang Award is bestowed each year to honor an outstanding individual who has demonstrated sustained efforts in advancing either theoretical or practical aspects of computational mechanics and who provided strong leadership either in an academic environment or in different industrial applications.

The application involves submitting the nomination form along with the CV of the candidate and three support letters from the nominator (self-nomination are not admissible).

The CEACM Computational Mechanics Award was initiated by CEACM primarily for recognizing outstanding contributions to the traditional research areas for Computational Structural/Solid Mechanics and Computational Fluid Dynamics. However, it may also be given to recognize excellent contributions outside these areas. For example, it may be bestowed in recognition of accomplishments in Software Development, Scientific Computing, research contributions in Computational Electromagnetics, Uncertainty Quantification, Biomechanics, and other areas, not traditionally embraced by traditional research domains, but with general applicability to Computational Mechanics.

The CEACM Computational Mechanics Award is bestowed each year to honor exceptional individual contributions not only to traditional but also to broader fields of interest to Computational Mechanics.

The application involves submitting the nomination form along with the CV of the candidate and three support letters from the nominator (self-nomination are not admissible).

The CEACM Young Researcher Award was initiated by CEACM to honor an exceptional contribution of a young scientist, who has completed his/her doctoral studies in the broad domain of Computational Mechanics within the year of the award call.

The CEACM Young Researcher Award is bestowed each year. The winner will be presented with a two-year CEACM membership and a conference fees waver for one of the CEACM sponsored conferences.  The thesis of the awardee will further be proposed for the ECCOMAS Best Thesis Award competition within the year of the award call.

The application involves submitting the doctoral thesis along with the CV of the candidate and a support letter from the principal thesis advisor.
